Er war so etwas wie die Hit-Garantie der Cash Money Millionaires Ende der 90er-Jahre: Der aus New Orleans, Louisiana stammende Produzent und Rapper Mannie Fresh. Gemeinsam mit Labelchef Baby fungierte er als Duo Big Tymers und produzierte Songs, die sich insgesamt 23 Millionen mal verkauften. Wie er nun verriet, wurde er für diese Arbeit unzureichend bis gar nicht bezahlt:

“I did albums for Cash Money, I didn’t do singles, I did whole albums for Cash Money, and at the end of the day I’m saying I wasn’t paid for albums so its like you’re doing 10 songs and somebody pays you for 1. What would that be equivalent to? I just said hey this is an example of what it would be equivalent to and its no secret that everybody know why I left Cash Money. We’re on speaking terms now but truth be told, yeah it was behind money, everybody know what it was…In truth, I will work with them again based on this, if they cut the check. Its not going to be based on just some words but we done talked about that, we done been there and by the grace of God, we ain’t enemies, none of us hate each other but business is business and that was a hard lesson for me to learn. I was in love with doing music, I wasn’t paying attention to my business so I’m not even going to say that was all Cash Money’s fault that was my fault as well but I was a young dude that didn’t know any better. So now that I know better, I’m not going to plug in my scene with out doing business and I got my beats and my paper work right.”

Doch auch nach der Neuordnung des Labels scheint kein gesteigerter Wert auf die Bezahlung der Beatschmieden gelegt zu werden. So machte auch Bangladesh, Co-Produzent von Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” seinem Ärger Luft:

“This is why Manny Fresh don’t f*ck with (Cash Money) because he never got any royalty money. That’s why Baby can go around flaunting this cash, because that’s everyone else’s money… It’s not even Wayne’s fault. Wayne is not getting money. He is given money, he’s not getting money. If Baby gets a million dollars he’ll buy Wayne a Phantom, but that’s in Cash Money’s name. That 14-bedroom mansion isn’t Wayne sh*t. That’s why he have his own company, because he was trying to leave Cash Money and the only thing that would keep him there was (if they) gave him his own thing. But Baby still controls that. All those Young Money artists don’t even know that they not getting royalty money.”

Darüberhinaus verklagte auch Jim Jonsin, Produzent von Wayne’s Hit “Lollipop”, das Label wegen ausstehenden Zahlungen.

HipHop Ikone Kool G Rap plant, laut Informationen von allhiphop.com, ein neues Album aufzunehmen. Zwar gibt es noch keinen Titel und noch kein einziger Track wurde aufgenommen, allerdings zeigt sich Kool G Rap sehr optimistisch:

“Es ist lange her, dass ich so enthusiastisch war. Wenn jemand mir Fragen über das Album stellt, könnte ich stundenlang mit ihm reden. Ich habe soviel zu erzählen obwohl noch kein Track aufgenommen wurde.”

Das Album soll inhaltlich Teile von Kool G Raps Leben thematisieren, die er bisher der Öffentlichkeit verschwiegen hat:

“Das ist G Rap von der Kindheit bis heute. Das ist der Teil von mir, den die Leute auf dem Album bekommen.”

Kool G Raps letztes größeres Lebenszeichen war das 2008er Album “Half a Klip”. In letzter Zeit hatte Kool G Rap sich des öfteren darüber geäußert, dass er seine Leidenschaft an der Musik verloren hat. So wie es aktuell aussieht, dürfen sich Fans in nächster Zeit aber auf neues Material freuen.
